How to apply for a marriage license using Zoom?

Due to the coronavirus, the court recommended applying for the marriage license online using the zoom application. You had to mail the court a copy of your birth certificate, photo ids and divorce paper if it happens or the death certificate of your previous spouse; the payment for the certification and all the documents must be in English. The court will mail you the license for the signature, and after the ceremony, you have to send it back to the court, and then an official certificate will be prepared and mailed to you.

How to get a marriage license?

New Paltz Town Court’s marriage license is obtained from the clerk’s office and is given by the health department of Ulster County. The fee for a marriage license is $40 and for certificates is $10 per copy. The couple’s age must be 18+. To get the certification, the couple had to submit a marriage form with a birth certificate, photo ids like a driver’s license, Passport, or anything that could prove their identity. All these documents must be in English. If this is anyone’s second marriage, a divorce paper or spouse death certificate must be required at the time of registration. If anyone wants the copies, fill out the certificated copy of the marriage license request, and submit it to the court. When the license is issued, a 24 hours waiting period is compulsory, and the expiration of the license is up to 60 days. The wedding ceremony will be performed in the court, but the couple must look for an officiant to perform the ceremony because the court will not suggest anyone.

They are responsible for the maintenance of all Official Town Records and the issuance of various licenses. The clerk’s office provides the certification of different claims, permits and many more. They had custody of all records like marriage certificates, birth certificates etc. They are an agent of licensing and custodians of the town records. A traffic court hearing will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm, and civil every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 pm.

What are court rules?

The court rules are: 

  • No electronic items or recordings are allowed. Cell phones should be switched off during the court session
  • Eating and drinking items are prohibited in the court
  • A proper and comfortable dress is permitted. Sleeveless, tight and torn clothes are not allowed in this court.
