Introduction

Northampton County Court is a city courthouse serving the residents of Pennsylvania. The appeals from the eastern district will go to the 3rd circuit United States court of appeals. The courthouse was established with a clerk’s office in 1731 by John Marshall then a prison was established in this building in 1814. It has jurisdiction over the criminal, small claim, landlord-tenant, civil, family, juvenile, traffic, and vehicle matters. The court rules and procedures must be followed by every person that visits the court. Proper dressing is required in the courthouse. This courthouse consists of a magistrate court and common pleas court. An average of 70,000 cases were handled by the magistrate court each year.

A person can pay for tickets and fines by visiting the court during regular court hours and paying in cash, checks, or with a card at the court payment window. Northampton County Court civil court handles cases related to family matters and they started handling these types of cases in 1978. The family matters include divorce, separation, child custody, support and visitation matters as well as juvenile matters. Co-parenting education programs are provided by this court in which the parents that filed for divorce learn some time management and different skills that can help in child custody and visitation matters.
